Hi, there! Welcome to my site and my blog - Librarian in the Forest. Thanks for visiting. My name is Michelle Kovacs, and I hope you find some interesting things to add to your repertoire of library "stuff" to incorporate into your own library or one in your near future, as well as ways to use technology in and out of the library. My goals are to update bi-monthly on the goings on in my library as well as reviewing apps and sites for use.
I have been in education for the last eighteen years. I have been a teacher in Currituck County, North Carolina and most recently, Virginia Beach, Virginia. I graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, K-6, minoring in Middle Grades education, 6-9. I have recently finished my Library Media certification through Old Dominion University, and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Education there, with high hopes of graduating within the next year.
I have had the privilege of working with wonderful folks from the great state of North Carolina for a number of years, teaching mainly Geography/Social Studies, before getting moved to teach Language Arts. I think that was the best move I ever made! I learned to have a passion for reading and wanting to instill that into my students. It all began with "Al Capone Does My Shirts" by Gennifer Choldenko. (If you haven't read it, it is a MUST read! -- and according to everyone I've taught since then, the next two in the series are right behind that one!) Be sure to check out the pictures I had taken with her-- yes, it's okay to be jealous, I got to meet her!
I am finishing up my last year in the classroom as we speak. It is a bittersweet move, as I am leaving a set of wonderful colleagues, staff, and students, but I know I want to be in the library and when I was offered this opportunity, it was one I knew was right for me! Feel free to add advice or comments for me as I welcome any help from seasoned librarians! Embarking on this new part of my career is exciting and I look forward to you moving through that journey with me!
